Profile
As a member of the Canadian Wood Fibre Centre’s forest genetics research team and a participant in the SMarTForests forest tree genomics project, Sébastien studies the spruce genes involved in wood formation. His specific area of research is the identification of natural genetic variations (polymorphisms) that give trees desirable characteristics (phenotypes), such as greater wood density or decreased angle of cellulose microfibrils.
He also develops databases (PhenoTree, TreeSNPs) and bioinformatics tools applied to genomics and tree phenotyping.
In the past, Sébastien has worked in biomedical research and biopharmaceutics in university and industrial settings.
