Screening spruce for white pine weevil resistance

Conclusions

Explaining research results to foresters (photo)
Dr. René Alfaro and Dr. John King explain results to area foresters

Conclusions

  • Screening of putative resistant parents has been successfully completed
    (over 29,000 trees screened)
  • Resistant Sitka and interior parents have been selected
  • Resistance is heritable and stable
  • We are initiating the second phase: breeding for resistance
  • Studying the ecology of resistance, i.e. the ecological conditions where resistance originated and where it is most likely to be stable.

Project status

  • On-going
