Misha Demidovich graduated from Lake Superior State University in 1999 with a Bachelor Degree in Biology. In 2001 she graduated with a postgraduate diploma in Wildlife Biology from the University of Queensland, in Brisbane Australia.
Working on various contract positions at the Great Lakes Forestry Centre (GLFC) since 1999, she has had the opportunity to gain a wide range of knowledge and experiences. Her first position was working as a library clerk where she was responsible for acquiring and delivering interlibrary loans. Other contracts included performing bioassays for a forest tent caterpillar project, and participating in various stages of insect rearing by working in the Insect Production Unit. She also worked as a field research assistant on the SLAM (Stand Level Adaptive Management) project where responsibilities included establishing and maintaining field plots and the collection and processing of invertebrate pitfall trap samples. She also worked as a laboratory assistant for Bioforest Technologies Inc. and as a laboratory technician at the Ontario Forest Research Institute organizing and processing various soil samples.
In 2005, Misha worked as a laboratory technician in the Virology Department of GLFC where her responsibilities included the initiation and completion of laboratory experiments such as the propagation and purification of insect viruses, cloning, and the isolation of genes and gene products.
Misha has been working as an Insect Quality Control Technician since 2007 and joined the Insect Production Services team in 2008 as an indeterminate employee. She is currently working in quality control and is also supervising the daily operations of the Insect Quarantine facility.
In 2009, Insect Production Services was presented with the Natural Resources Canada Departmental Achievement Award because of the team’s outstanding achievements in their specialized area.
