Fertilizing 70-year-old lodgepole pine stands 10 years before rotation on Coalspur Mercoal soils in Alberta increased wood yield and reduced logging costs. Real internal rates of return were over 10% for some treatments, making them an attractive investment on both soil types. Present net worth and profitability index were used to identify the most profitable treatment.
