Resilience of soil carbon reservoirs in eastern Canada's forests

Description

  1. Describe the effects of temperature on the dynamics of soil organic matter decomposition according to gradients of forest biomes as well as climatic ranges within biomes and over a sequence of stand development stages using controlled laboratory conditions.
  2. Build a soil C budget model for the investigated sites with the results of the laboratory incubation experiments and validate this model with empirical measurements of C pools and fluxes.
  3. Provide a template for determining the effects of climate change on soil C pools across a climatic gradient in eastern Canada.
