Post-fire dynamics in the boreal forest

Description

  1. Evaluate the factors that affect the quality and quantity of post-fire forest regeneration and subsequent growth. Develop decision-support mapping tools for planning salvage operations and regeneration of burned areas.
  2. Characterize the long-term post-fire dynamics for the main types of surficial deposits in the balsam fir-white birch and spruce domains of eastern and western Quebec, while taking the disturbance regimes that affect them into account.
  3. Assess the evolution of different landscapes according to various disturbance scenarios (disturbance regime, climate change and/or forest management), particularly to evaluate the sustainability of forestry practices.
