Systematics, taxonomy, ecology and biodiversity of poorly known selected groups of forest litter insects, inventory of rove beetles (Staphylinidae) in the boreal forest of Canada, impacts of forestry practices and short and long term effects of intensive forest biomass removal for bioenergy on biodiversity of forest litter fauna, and detection and identification of exotic Coleoptera species introduced into Canada.

Adjunct professor in forestry at the University of British Columbia from 1997 to 2000. Member of the entomological societies of British Columbia, Canada, South Africa, New Zealand and the United States. Member of the European Coleopterological Society and the North American Coleopterists Society.


Scientist with a master’s degree from Wroclaw University (1973), Poland, and a Ph.D. in insect ecology and taxonomy (1978) from the same university in collaboration with Agriculture Canada in Ottawa. He has worked in several countries, including Poland, South Africa, New Zealand and the United States.
