• tan coloured and usually has a distinctive dark brown, cross-shaped pattern on its back

Habitat:

• wooded areas near permanent or temporary pools and along marshy edges of slow moving rivers

Conservation concerns, distribution and status:

• common and widespread throughout Ontario
