Description
- 5 - 7 cm, slightly smaller than the American toad
- the "warts" are in groupings of three or four within dark
blotches on the skin
- the parotoid glands behind the eyes touch the bony ridges
- hybrids of Fowler's and American toads are found which makes indentification
difficult where ranges overlap
Habitat:
- sandy areas along lakeside marshes and ponds
Conservation concerns, distribution and status:
- restricted to a few areas on the north shore of Lake Erie
- designated as Vulnerable in Ontario and Canada
